Watched Last Action Hero tonight. I'm very fond of that film and am disappointed that other folks didn't think it was as clever as I did. (Plus a cameo by Sir Ian.)
Made me wistfully think, again, that there are aspects of genre fiction that would be quite handy. Being perpetually in school, like on most television shows, means nobody graduates and vanishes off into some other life. Nobody gets laid off and has to move back home. For the most part, nobody dies. Life doesn't tear people away from you. Of course, contract disputes still do. Cancellation raises some serious philosophical debate too.

Yay last action hero. People didn't understand it as clever because they expected an ACTION movie. This was not an action movie. It was a parody.

Unless something is clearly labeled 'HELLO I AM A PARODY', most people won't understand it. :)

Well yeah. I said disappointed, not surprised.
As a secondary point, lots of folks don't like having their paradigms fucked with.
