Last Day

It just hit me this afternoon that today was my last day.

We never did get back for more swimming. (My misanthropy apparently extends to sharing a pool with vacationers in groups of more than two.) In fact, until we left for the matinee I pretty much didn't accomplish a damned thing aside from downloading a chat program that lets RoseNeko contact me. And making peanut butter sandwiches.

The matinee was Coriolanus, which was a very well done performance although the venue had taken on much of the heat of the day and I sweat like a pig. It was done in modern garb, which I think gave it a lot of punch, and both Coriolanus and Brutus were excellent. (And hot.) Aufidius had a really good scene, sort of Apocalypse Now. I put it just above Othello, and below Comedy of Errors, in my ratings for the week. Damned fine work.

After the show I reunited with Miss Friday and we wandered up Ashland Creek until we tired of it and I was starving, and then we turned around and walked downstream. The weather had changed, all overcast and soupy, and there was the definite promise of thunder and lightning. Once we got back to the main drag, we wandered up and down the street eyeing prospective restaurants and finally ended up at an Indian place I'd spotted down below the Water Street overpass on Lithia a while back. We both agreed it was quite acceptable, even if they do put rosewater in the lassis.

While we were in the restaurant, there was a brief sprinkling, so everything smelled lovely and rained on when we got out. And there was occasional thunder and lightning. And we went to the Standing Stones for presents, and then sat and read until the evening show. (Only ten pages until I'm done with the book!)

The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler was my favorite show this week. Miss Friday allowed that it was nearly as enjoyable as Comedy of Errors, but she is neither a surrealist nor a theater buff. I want to get my hands on a copy of the script. It made a lovely bookend for the week.
