Who's that girl running around with you?
Aug. 22nd, 2008 10:36 amThis week's IFIAYAQD is very special. A new cast member is being added to Torchwood--After the War. (Or TWATW for those clever wits among the fanbase.) Team Leader Lady Waverleigh recently made a trip to London for a few reasons, including "to see about adding a tea maker/librarian/accountant/housekeeper to keep the base clean". And I come to you, the collective, to ask you to tell me about this newest team member. Does she have a history with Torchwood? Is he on the run from something in his past? Is it an alien in need of a job in order to keep its visa valid? Is he a snide uppercrust valet? Does she collect stamps?
I've set comments to 'screened' in case you have an idea you don't want the audience to know about right away. Let me know if a comment should be unscreened. Also? The next game is in six days so please jump right in! Especially you lurkers there in the back--I want to hear from you as well.

Date: 2008-08-24 06:56 am (UTC)James Barnes (Barney to his friends) loves money fiercely and that's what landed him in his current predicament. He'd spent more than a year setting up the scam of a lifetime, one that would've set him up for good (assuming he didn't gamble it all away, did I mention he has a gambling problem?), and was just lining up the fall guys when he met the "big man" of the criminal organization he was working with...the man turned out to be a rather large and lumpy blob of an alien with some rather nasty plans for the human race. James was stuck between a rock and a hard place, if he went to the authorities he'd probably end up in the nut hatch if he was lucky, prison if not; on the other hand he wasn't quite ready to turn his back on humanity. Fortunately he met a very understanding young lady in a local tavern who he confided in (after a few too many pints), she offered him another choice... he just had to get her into the organization and she and her friends would set things right.
Suffice to say Torchwood 1 quickly put an end to the alien's nefarious plans and realized that Barney, while a bit nefarious, was too useful a man to simply let slink back into the underworld or off to prison so they hired him. He's not exactly delighted to be doing the sort of work he thought he'd managed to escape, but he can't really complain about the paycheck...and there may have been a bit of blackmail involved as well. He'd much rather be out and about than locked up, so while a little bitter, he's still determined to do his job to the best of his ability and stay on his employers' good side.
