Paul Newman, after a long struggle with cancer, has made his peace with the world.
Mister Newman, you make me hope there's an afterlife so that you can be rewarded there.

I don't know--I haven't been there yet, and nobody I know has mentioned being there.

No one's been to the center of the Earth either...

There are many things that we can't observe existing except in how they effect other things. Would you like the rundown on the logic of the existance of the immortality of the soul (and hence the existance of an afterlife)?

Whether he does or not, I would. Convince me.

Awareness is reflexive. You can be aware of you being aware. You can be aware of you being aware of you being aware. You can do this as many times over as you want, folded like samurai steel.

An eye, without the use of an external device, cannot look at itself looking. It would have to be in two places at once. It can't do that because it is limited by it's very own physical nature.

Awareness is not limited in this way.

Hence, awareness can't be physical.

Therefore, it is immaterial. It cannot suffer material death. It is immune to physical death. It is immortal.

Your awareness is unique to you. You cannot be aware of someone elses's awareness. Your awareness is unique to you.

Your soul.

Immortal.

So you would say that the existence of an afterlife is inevitable through observation and extrapolation, and not just the hubris of an awareness that is certain that it is Much Too Pretty To Die?

Exactly.

The mouse is not the mouse-pointer. The movement of the mouse-pointer isn't secondary... it's tertiary. But even then, there's a force behind the movement of my hand that causes the movement of the mouse that causes the interaction of the mouse-pointer with the operating system environment.

My body is the mouse-pointer. It interacts with the world. My awareness drives my body. But there's still more behind my awareness that I'm not entirely aware of because my awareness is stuck on the movements of the mouse-pointer.

Fun huh?

In this case, then, the mouse (the awareness, perhaps a soul) is aware of the potential existence of a hand, even if it can't imagine how many fingers it has or what purpose it serves. And then we enter into a recursive loop, since the body is analogous to the mouse pointer. Thus, not only is the awareness infinite but everything is infinite.
There's a hole there somewhere, but I have to get ready for the game.

Well, yeah, the infinate is infinate...

But the infinite is also the singularity.

And then there's the null point. How long does the time without time last? No way to tell. And then it all come out from the other side. From the none, one. From the one, everything.

And thus everything is nothing, and nothing is everything; Zen is achieved and the student is enlightened. This is the Wei Wu Wei.

Eh... I would say that everything is everything, nothing is nothing, and they're both different sides of the mobius strip.

It's close to zen, but zen gets too nilhist for me. I'm not *that* much of a German...
