cyrano: (Smarter than you)

I am learning the mysteries of the iThing. EarthPig very thoughtfully loaned me his, and I'm finding out things like how to turn it off, or how to use iTunes to put files on the hard drive (my other mp3 player just used 'My Computer'), or how to get iTunes to *see* the iThing and speak to it.

I'm hoping the learning curve is short because I'm tired of feeling like an idiot about something that everybody else in the world already knows and that babies are born with an innate knowledge of.

These damned kids and their technology. I'm getting a shotgun. And a front porch. And, I think, a lawn, so they have something to get off.

Are you talking about an iPod? There's a slight learning curve, but its not too bad. If you've got questions, feel free to ask me about them. I've worked with iThings both on the PC and the Mac.

Yeah, it's an iPod Mini. A lot of it is 'I know how to do this with my other mp3 player, but this is a completely different UI'.
The whole 'synching' thing threw me for a while, for instance. I think I'm coming out the other side, and will once again look competent. (:

I too can answer questions, but have a feeling you'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

For someone who works (and has worked) in the tech industry, you are starting to show a bit of grumpiness in your old age. ;-)

Right now, I'd be full of grumpiness no matter what industry I was working in.

I actually think the iPod is kinda crummy from a usability perspective. But that's cos I have a hard time with the wheel, and I think the UI, while admittedly getting better, is basically an inadequate hack of the UI developed when people had a couple hundred songs in their library rather than a couple thousand.

I do like the look of the thing though. And I like iTunes, though I haven't used it lately.
