The good news is that I can turn on my windshield wipers with the best of them.
The bad news is that it took longer to change the tire that I blew than it did to take the test.
I took the right turn onto Showers out of the DMV, cranked the wheel too far and smashed into the curb. Within 20 feet I had failed the test. I do not yet know which Saturday in July the DMV is open, but I'll make another appointment and try to fail less egregiously.

On the up side, Ellie came and saved me, and Jay and Silent Bob made me laugh a lot.

Quick update on this. I'm amazingly pissed off about the driving test thing.
I hate that I'm terrified by this, and I hate feeling weak because I can't handle something that is so central to my culture. And I hate that a part of me uses this fear as a wedge to attack me. But I will be damned if, before this permit expires in August, I will not have beaten this minor, yet symbolically significant, hurdle.

Oooh, honey... Bummerrrrr!

Well, that's an easy mistake to make (overcompensating, it's not just for the bedroom any more!) so don't let it disenhearten you too much!

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, and wishing you coyotes on all your driving trips!

*smooch*

HUGS!

Oh, honey, I'm so sorry!

I failed my very first driving test, too. The woman who gave me the test was brand new to the DMV, so she did everything By The Book, complete with stone face and monotone voice. Being one of those people who is inherently terrified of cars in general and driving in particular, it made for a traumatic experience.

In another burst of coincidence, I also failed the test within twenty or so feet of passing. The crime? I didn't excellerate fast enough when turning on to the street that would take me back to the DMV. It was not a main road or even a busy one, and there were no other cars present at the time, yet my failure to accelerate up to the 30MPH speed limit for the whole fifteen feet it took to reach the turn into the DMV lot was deemed a "dangerous action" for which I failed the test.

Two weeks later, I went back and passed with no trouble at all.

Cars scare the living SHIT out of me, they really do. I'll never love driving the way some of my friends do, it will always be a chore and something of a white-knuckle experience. Even so, I -can- do it ...

...and so can you. :-)

Ugh. Hug.

I'd actually feel better, personally, about failing because of a flat tire, than because of some picayune thing I did wrong that will never, ever affect me in my future life. Like, in the case of my brother, stopping about a foot over the line at a stop sign. At least with the tire it's equipment failure, you know?

My brother failed his test two or three times. IT's ok. It happens. ANd man, a blown tire, that's just conspiracy of nature. *hug* You CAN do it. I know you can!

Chin up, mon frer. At least you didn't flunk the test by failing to yield on a left-hand turn and head-on-ing another car. :-)

J&SBSB-- Not the greatest Kevin Smith movie ever made, but probably the world's longest and funniest in-joke, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. "We love this monkey!!"

Heck, I failed my driver's test the first time through. I got buzzed by a couple of paramedics on an ambulance joyride. They turned on the lights just for me because they thought I was cute or something, and then kept going, sans lights. The instructor cited me for not pulling over fast enough. I have never been so angry in my life.

Tests are rough...

Hang in there. Maybe one of your friends can give you practice tests the weekend before? I never found pretending they were in their underwear very helpful, but imagining it's a friend might.

Well yeah, but I imagine some of my friends in their underwear all the time.

Just to add to the chorus, I had to take the test three times. Parallel parking was my nemesis.
