This went nowhere near where I was expecting, and despite thinking "oh, wouldn't it be cool if she went this way with it?" I was still bushwhacked when she did go that way, and then kept going further than I'd imagined.
Absent parents, authority derived from where it can be taken, kids struggling with growing up on the edges of society. And since I'm reading it in snippets, I'd forgotten the title when I got to the end.
