Working Undercover for the Man
Jun. 16th, 2002 09:04 pmSince everybody in the known world has done it already except the iconoclastic Tahnan (even Osama bin Laden has done it--his results will be released on his next video), I now submit The quiz answered by lyrics from one artist, featuring Los Del Rio.

1. Are you male or female
I won't forget when Peter Pan came to my house, took my hand
I said I was a boy; I'm glad he didn't check.
just a small boy on her bike
2. Describe yourself:
Oh, I am the brainchild, I am the mortar,
With a plastic trophy and an eating disorder,
And vision as big as a great big wall,
Hey God, we're the bad kids, we're so nasty, mean and vile
And then I go outside and join the others, I am the others,
3. How do they feel about you?
My friends all think that I holed up and hid
Sometimes they say "I don't know who you are
But let me walk with you some"
And I say "I am alone, that's all
You can't save me from all the wrong I've done."
But they're waiting just the same
With their flashlights and their semaphores
And they said, "What a coincidence," and "Hey, you're just the man,
We were saying that you did the best you could
You're fine, we understand and so--
And though the static walls surround me
You were out there and you found me
4. How do you feel about yourself?
I'm here today because I fought for what I felt and what I thought
there was a time way back, many years ago in college, don't laugh,
But I thought I was a radical,
Sometimes I see myself fine, sometimes I need a witness
And I like the whole truth
But there are nights I only need forgiveness
5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend:
As a moon may adore you and remain, high moon
The wind may crown your head with leaves, and keep blowing
So I'll stop and I'll watch you, for I love, I love
And then be on my way. And then be on my way.
She's the best one that we've ever had
She sits on her hair and she's tall as my dad
And she tie-dyed my shirt and she pierced her own ear
But there she was this morning getting fitted for her wings
Leather boots, magenta hair, and saying nasty things
I'd say she was an angel but it's stupid and it's obvious
6. What would you rather be doing?
So I'm going to steal out with my paint and brushes
I'll change the directions, I'll hit every street
It's the Tinseltown scandal, the Robin Hood vandal
She goes out and steals the king's English
I could teach her how I learned to dance when the music's ended.
Now she's made us some popcorn, we've turned out the lights and we're watching movies
How I long to fall just a little bit, to dance out of the lines and stray from the light,
7. Describe where you live:
There's a part of the country could drop off tomorrow in an earthquake,
Yeah, it's out there on the cutting edge, the people move, the sidwalks shake.
I'm up in heaven now, they say I'm here to stay
Where the clouds are really puffy and the angels sing every day
She said what kind of people make a city
Where you can't see the sky and you can't feel the ground?
8. Describe how you live:
With my maps on the table, you see, I have lost many things
So many I won't turn back.
And my ex-boyfriend can't tell me I've sold out, because he's in a cult.
And he's not allowed to talk to me.
But way back where I come from, we never mean to bother,
We don't like to make our passions other people's concern,
And we walk in the world of safe people, and at night we walk into our houses and burn.
we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,
Forget what happened yesterday,
I know that better things are on their way.
9. Describe how you love:
I heard love can fall so hard, it can bury a kingdom
I heard it makes the spring appear out of season
It's a storm in a shadowbox, a force to be reckoned with,
When it finds you and find you, it will.
What is love, where did it get me? Whoever thought of love is no friend of mine.
If you're gonna get your heart broke, you better do it just right,
And so for you, I came this far across the tracks, ten miles above the limit,
and with no seatbelt, and I'd do it again,
10. Share a few words of wisdom:
Well sometimes, life gives us lessons sent in ridiculous packaging,
Truth is just like time, it catches up and it just keeps going,
Find your voice, do what it takes
Make sure you make lots of mistakes

Date: 2002-06-18 11:37 am (UTC)a) I too have never taken this quiz, never even heard of it. I too would never stoop so low as to take it either.
b) Question #3 is disturbing on general principles. Who are "they"? It implies the writers (and all the respondants) think the voices in their heads are real, and that's just wrong.
c) [pauses for consideration - trying desperately to remember what she wanted to say] The fact you used song lyrics to answer is incredibly wonderful and not just a little warped. But I love you for it

Date: 2002-06-18 09:32 pm (UTC)As to the second point, I saw the questions as being open to interpretation by the test taker. "Describe where you live" could be a home town, a house, a state of mind... Therefore, 'they' could be whoever you like.
And as much as I'd love to take creative credit on the third point, and as much as I adore being loved, I must confess that the quiz was distributed with that caveat in place--all answers should be in the form of lyrics by a single artist/band. I considered using Bach or von Bingen, as amusing options.
