Hero makes me cry. Even if I can't see the subtitles.

EDIT: Now to try Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with no subtitles, to see if I can figure out what the fuss is about.

Dang, if I'd known you needed a copy with visible subtitles I wouldn't have packed it earlier...

Alas, I don't think it's the copy. I think it's my fancy ass expensive new television. q:

Apparently, the industry's reaction to their excisement of subtitles is "Really? Funny that. So don't watch foreign language films. Or have hearing difficulties. Piss off."

Hero is one of those movies I just enjoyed a great deal. It had the camerawork and cinematography from Crouching Tiger, and House of Flying Daggers, but the plot was better constructed, I thought. It had more pathos to it, characters with motivations you could feel.
