Social Safety Net? Artist Collective?
Or just another way to get yourself to finish that project that's been languishing for months?

Rent Parties...a thought.
Hey all,

I'm crossposting this far and wide, but collecting responses on Dreamwidth so that I can track the conversation all in one place.

I've watch "Be Kind, Rewind" a couple of times, done some research on jazz musicians and other fixtures of the depression, and...of course, I have a love of indie effort and putting something together with my own hands, so...

I know a lot of us and our friends in the arts are going through hard times right now making ends meet. I'm not currently one of them, so I kick in five bucks whenever I've got it to whoever needs it more than I do, but I feel like I could do more.

And I thought about the internet. I thought about all the artistic friends I have. I thought about Avenue Q (which I just went to see the other night) and the Pass the Hat song. And then I thought about how I could put all these things together.

And I guess this is my long-winded way of saying "Would anyone out there in internet land be interested in starting a quarterly 'zine that we'd sell for donations (whatever anyone has to throw in the pot for an electronic copy, we could discuss reasonable pricing for a paper copy) called Rent Party, with the proceeds each quarter going to someone in our extended 'art family' who needs a little extra help?"

I don't have huge pretensions for this or anything, and I'd be happy if it even made $25 to throw in, and if I have to I'll write and typeset the whole thing myself, but I'd love if people wanted to join me. It wouldn't have to consist of "new work" if you had stuff you were willing to contribute even if it was "reprints" or stuff you wrote when you were 12 (hey! early works of the famous authors)...but I just feel like we ought to be able to do something.

Anyway, if you're at all interested, leave me a comment.

Do you want to let her know, or should I?

Might be better if you do considering you know her and I don't.
Thanks!

Hi there! (I'm Princess on DW!)

We'd love some artwork! Next week I'm going to post an "official" call for submissions, as soon as I have three spare minutes (I have two midterms on Monday). I'll post here as soon as I do that.

And it's very nice to meet you, at least in the electronic ether.
