I didn't expect this case to ever actually get resolved. Of course I realize that it's not yet--the federal government can appeal, but according to a federal district court decision this week, the Army Corp of Engineers is partly responsible through negligence for the devastation (still not cleaned up, by the way) in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina.
This article mentions it briefly; while wanting a decent infrastructure in this country may be socialist, I've never really shied away from saying things that could be considered socialist. We've spent decades 'gutting big gummint' because that's the easy and voter-friendly path, rather than investing in this country. (Which is, I believe, God's greatest democratic country of freedom and liberty that God ever put on the face of the greatest planet in the best solar system in the entire galaxy.)

But only $700,000 in this decision? Wow. That's kinda like a big slap in the face. "Yeah, they screwed up big time. But only $700,000 worth of big time."

Thanks for posting, though. I'm gearing up to run a Vampire chronicle set in New Orleans in a few weeks. :)

Any case against the government or a similar large corporation is going to result, at best, in a mildly annoying slap on the wrist. I hope there will be updates and lots of snarky Anne Rice jokes!

True, but that doesn't keep me from thinking it's ridiculous. :)

And there should be updates... at the very least, one of the players USUALLY maintains a wiki with storyline, but she started college this fall, which has put a crimp in her free time. :) http://thecitythatcareforgot.pbwiki.com

Yup. Since some of the other teenagers became responsible and have jobs that require them to work Sundays (ah, the life of minimum wage work), we've actually got openings for the first time in EVER. :) (There were 8 players in the last game that ran in this slot.)

I don't have a line on either yet, but I'm looking. (: We'll see.

(There's also going to be an "NPC by E-mail" portion of the game, if you'd be interested in that. I'll be sending out E-mail to people who are interested early in December.)

It was obvious years ago, when Katrina happened, that the Army Corps of Engineers had not been properly doing their jobs. From what I could tell the main problem was apathy.
