Uncomfortable Progression

If needs be that you must murder your children, there are essentially two ways you can go about it.
You can agonize over each one, feeling the pain and the anguish afresh each time and taking an abysmally long time to finish the job.
Or you can grow an emotional carapace, perhaps pretend you're only sending them to visit friends; you grow hard and cold, at which point the process becomes easier and easier until you're ready to start killing the neighbor children.

P.S. Coyote says he's happy, having way more fun down here, and you should send him a care package. Preferably with chocolate and Ghiradelli hot chocolate mix, please.

Perhaps I should also send some of the children. They'd love the weather down there. (He says he'd be having more fun if he weren't banished when guests came over.)

He doesn't get banished. He gets cuddled by multiple hands when guests are here. ;)
