cyrano: (Sudden but Inevitable)

I'm sitting here in the den playing video games, and somebody comes quietly up to the front door, depresses the latch and pushes on the door. Then they're gone. There's no attempt to use a key, no repeat attempt in case the door got stuck. This seems to be just somebody going around hoping somebody's left their door unlocked and aren't too close to the front door.

*hugs* The household is safe. And the house has an alarm.

I drove Chaz around all weekend to do her xmas shopping and stayed in the car in most places (no places to park anyway, so I dropped her at the front of the stores & she'd text me to come get her). I saw a LOT of people trying random car doors in the parking lots -- testing them to see if people had locked their car or not. Is the economy really that bad or are people really that criminal?

I don't think it's the economy, but I vascillate on what I think it is. Right now, I think people are just as criminally minded as they used to be, they're just more likely to act on those urges. Perhaps they're more self-centered and think that if they want it then whatever they do is okay in order to get it. Or perhaps they're more short sighted and aren't really considering consequences of their actions. Or they're just more stupid. I don't know.

Check outside, it might have just been somebody leaving some flyer on your latch. I don't think somebody trying to break in would be ballsy enough to just try to walk in without ascertaining whether or not someone is home first. Is there no car in your drive? Maybe they assumed.

The garage is contained (see earlier post) around the other side of the house. And yeah, it does seem pretty audacious, especially given that I know they could have seen the light, including flickering television style light. I'd go look now, but I'm naked.

The only time I've ever heard someone messing around my door, when I opened it there was usually some flyer on the doorknob or a package left there by a delivery man who didn't feel like knocking and waiting.

I had a terrifying dream last night that went much like this, although I hadn't read your LJ post yet. I dreamed that I was in an apartment or hotel room and someone came to the door. There was this incredible feeling of tension and fear, although I don't know why. I was very quiet, hoping they'd think no one was home and that they'd go away. Whoever it was tried the doorknob, but the door was locked. Then it was quiet for a long time. Then the phone rang, and I was convinced that they were calling from just outside the door, to see if I picked up.

Maybe I read too many books about serial killers.

Is there such a thing as too many books about serial killers? It's like too much ice cream.

Good point. I just remember reading about a guy who thought that an unlocked door was a sign from God that he was allowed to go in and kill the occupants.

This may be my only opportunity to use them, so I'm grabbing both of them.
