It makes me just a little bitey-crazy when they use the phrase "if you know what I mean" in porn stories. Because, inevitably, there's no subtlety and no chance you'd miss the innuendo even if it weren't porn and were instead a report to Congress on agricultural trends and sorghum production.
"I very much wanted to have the sex with her, if you know what I mean."
Yes. Yes, I think I do.

Good to know that someone else is being exactly as productive this morning as I am. :)

I can only hope that we're being productive in the same fashion.
Um. If you know what I mean.

I think I would classify that as a form of "single entendre". Kinda like saying "touche" when you've been attacked but not countered.

The thing is, they're convinced that they're being so *amazingly* clever, in the style of F.Scott and Zelda, or Oscar Wilde. But they're afraid that they've been *too* clever and so they helpfully point out where they've been clever so that folks don't blithely wander past their creative genius.

Have you ever watched "Whose Line Is It Anyway"? The "If You Know What I Mean" game was lame enough that they didn't do it very often, but when they did, it got... silly.

If not, I can inflict in on you, Cyrano. It will also demonstrate how truly awful Stephen Fry is at singing (and rapping).

And in return I'll have you listen to Tony Hawk singing "Girlfriend in a Coma" to the tune of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips".

I don't think I've ever seen that particular sketch, no, but I find it hard to imagine any of the Whose Line crew becoming silly.
