We went to see the new RDJr movie this morning. Bob and Jude Law are definitely a cute couple, and I had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun (thanks in part to good company) and I am intrigued by the score. (Hans Zimmer, Gladiator and PotC.) There were a lot of things that made me think of my Deadlands game tomorrow, and the writing was clever. This might be one that I buy so it can put it next to my copy of "Young Sherlock Holmes" and keep it company. Four wags.

See, I keep telling people it wasn't nearly as bad as expected. I too compared it to Young Sherlock Holmes and intend to procure a copy when the time comes.

I bought my ticket for Iron Man strictly because RDJr was in it. I figured Sherlock Holmes wouldn't be much different. (:
But yeah, it was better than I expected.

I'm going to see it next Friday with Valerie and her beau. We considered going this weekend, but decided the crowds would be too big.

Looking forward to your review. (:
(I've had two people tell me tonight that they thought the movie was more like the books than Basil Rathbone. I'm not certain if I believe them or not.)

Well, I haven't seen the movie yet (hoping to work that in for this weekend), but everything I've seen about it so far indicates that RDJr and Law are playing characters much more in line with Doyle's creations. Sir A.C. Doyle's Holmes was a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman, with occasionally questionable personal hygiene and the housekeeping skills of a magpie. (Not to mention the whole "seven per cent solution" thing, which makes the casting of Downey especially delicious.) Watson was a veteran of the Afghan Wars and inveterate ladies' man, as well as a trained and licensed physician and surgeon.

Much as I love Basil Rathbone's take on the Great Detective, I'm really looking forward to what RDJr does with the character. I have a feeling that this Holmes may well be the most intact transition from the page to date.
