Monday night after a lovely weekend seeing Jess and Pat and staying with Brian and Rose. Yay for feeling welcome and seeing old friends and making breakfast and petting cats and going to the carnival and just hanging out and not being in a truck. The weather has been lovely, like I'm getting a bit of monsoon season early. (Not so fun in the truck, with wind and rain and spray from other passing trucks.)
We headed back north to Mesa for lunch with Amanda's family, and that was where we learned that our proposed route to Hwy40 through Flagstaff had gotten six inches of snow dumped on it. And so we politely said fuck that noise and headed south, running that section of Hwy10 for the fourth time. We were looking to get as far as Lordsburg, twenty miles over the border into New Mexico, because the map had something marked "Shakespeare Ghost Town" on it. However, after dinner at the Chinese Mexican place in Willcox, the rain transformed itself into blowing horizontal rain that threatened at any moment to turn into snow or freezing rain. So I found an exit and got turned around so that was could crash here.
So we're still in Arizona, by about 75 miles, and despite the lack of deadlines or appointments to make, I'm frustrated and antsy. I think that the Cancer in me is complaining that I don't currently have a home, a den, and wants me to hurry up and get settled already.

Oh man. I didn't even think to ask, even after pointing out the office in Sierra Vista with your sister's name on it.

Arizona does indeed get cold enough for ice and snow to form, just not usually this much or this late.

The town of Shakespeare was very popular with the cowboys. John Ringo used to buy his boots there as he had very big feet and none of the shops in and around Tombstone carried shoes in his size.

Ooo. My interest is piqued. I'll see if I can arrange a brief stopover. (:
(And yeah, I explained about how deserts get very hot but also very cold.)

I've always wanted to stop there, but have never gotten around to it. You'll have to let me know if there's anything left of the town at all.
