Context: Our next door neighbours have gargoyles at the foot of the drive. Around this time of year, they sport jaunty red caps with white trim. I didn't get a picture last time I was here, so today I made special certain.

Ummm, that doesn't look like a gargoyle, it looks like a grotesque. (To be a gargoyle, it must have a spout. The word gargoyle comes from the French word for throat.)
It's true, I used a commonly misinterpreted word to save myself some typing. And it's true, that is pedantic (from It. pedante "teacher, schoolmaster,"). *hugs* You're still cute.
