Here is another case showing why marriage equity is obviously not necessary, because you can rigorously pursue court documents that will protect all the same rights as marriage and there's no way you can be forced out of your home, have your possessions sold at auction, or be confined against your will and be unable to see your partner while they die. In Sonoma County, one of the most gay-friendly places in the country.

I was just reading about that yesterday and it was so utterly horrifying I couldn't even really wrap my brain around it. I truly hope the remaining partner takes Sonoma for everything.

One thing, though, is that this shouldn't be about marriage equity. Two people in a relationship with legal documents have rights, period; the thing you described could just as easily have happened to an unmarried straight couple, and the solution in either case, gay or straight, is not "you should get married if you want these basic legal rights".

Fully supported, especially as a non-partnered human being who would like his basic legal rights protected as well.
