Trust me, I'm on it. I have a passing acquaintance with these unwelcome guests. Luckily, the screaming pain phase appears to have passed on in the grey light of predawn.
The worst for me was being pretty damn sure I had a kidney stone, but the nearest ER was at a teaching hospital... which meant they wanted to run every test under the sun just to make sure... blergh.
Suck, in a dramatic fashion. The last time I went to immediate care, I sat in the waiting room for about... ten minutes, or twenty-seven hours depending on whether you asked me or my watch. They popped me into an exam room, and within half an hour I was doped up on morphine.
You can drink lots of water, but if it's obstructed, the other kidney will just clear the water right through. Drinking lots of water doesn't necessarily build up pressure and push a stone out. But it's good to stay hydrated anyway.
