In the interests of furthering my 'improve your attitude' campaign, I've decided that every driver on the road will be lovely, regardless of how good/safe a driver se happens to be, because there's always something to be admired about the drive.

What I find works best is remembering that behind the wheel of every single car is a *person*, and that person has the same issues that you or I do. Sometimes they forget to signal because they spaced it out. Sometimes they're speeding because they're late for work, or a loved one's in the hospital. Sure, not every asshole driver's going to actually be a good person, but I try to remember that I only see them briefly and what I see may or may not be a representative sample, so it's better to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I know that when I'm driving, I do my best to be courteous and such... leaving space to let people in, not blocking intersections, etc. Even so, I find myself apologizing to another driver (or to the road in general) two to three times per week. "Oh, geez, I'm so sorry, I'd have let you in if I'd noticed you earlier."

It's not that much of a stretch to think of other driver's doing the same (though I confess that I rarely do so.)

Good luck with that one. 95% of people you encounter behind-the-wheel have the same intelligence as an iguana. Of that lot, 80% are that way permanently.
