cyrano: (moon)

Tonight I went to the Santa Monica pier with Lily and Lori, which conveniently means I had social time with ten of the girls in the class--all of them save the local, Kristina, who lives in Valencia and has a hairy long commute after class.
It took way too long to get there, but we finally arrived and wandered a little and grabbed dinner and then actually walked out to the pier.
Which was lovely. I haven't been to the ocean in far too long. There were places where it was harder to see the neon, to hear people's stereo systems, where there were fewer people shouting and running around. Out toward the end of the pier was the little fishing platform where people were more or less just quietly watching the water. The moon was a thin knife, all fuzzy in the moisture-filled air, and the water was lit by streetlamps here and there and the dim fairy reflection of ship lights out on the water.
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky. (Masefield)
And there was a homeless boy on the bus with a guitar and pretty brown eyes, and I gave him my leftover pepper chicken. Told him I hoped he found a fork.

I'm jealous! All my trips to Santa Monica, and I never got to the pier. If you get a chance to go back to Santa Monica, stop by 14 Below for me and tell Steve and Todd that I miss them.

And, if you're really missing beaches and oceans, all the more reason to come visit me!!

I'll see if I can find this place in a week or so.
(And having a car means that I can actually go to the beaches and oceans that are about an hour's drive away from my front door.)
