The tops of my feet have felt numb for about thirty hours now.
That's uncommon, but could it be a sign of something uncommon and not good?
Just checking.

A quick Google brings this up. The only one that raises a red flag from what I know of your history is diabetes - maybe you should get your blood sugar checked?

I've had it checked recently, and I'm still pre-diabetic. However.

Have you been walking a lot, and/or wearing new shoes? I sometimes have had repetitive stress injuries on my feet as a result of walking too much in poor shoes; numbness is one symptom, either that or sharp pain. In that case, I do gentle foot stretches to help make sure that the foot stays flexible and help the blood circulate, and I switch to better shoes. It usually feels better after a few days of that.

Poor circulation and diabetes-related numbness are serious ones to watch out for, though.

....I don't *think* I've been doing much more walking than usual. At first, I just assumed that I'd laced my boots too tightly again. But that's usually a much shorter term event.

It could be Peripheral Neuropathy (PN) which can be caused by a number of reasons.

I hope you're not pre-diabetic. (One of the causes.)

Or sometimes nerves just get cut off or fall asleep.

Alas, definitely pre-diabetic. And my diet of late has not been best.
