A sold out scandal
Jul. 11th, 2010 01:04 pmThe one who are still getting comfortavle with the idea of public dancing
Now that the cel phone has power again, and the three hour drive home is behind, I can tell you about last night without the tiny keyboard and with editing ability.
Last night was boss. The DJ was good, the segues were nicely done (even with a set of all requests), and his library was amazing. I was surprised at some of the stuff I thought was more obscure, but then I remembered that I'm in Wax Trax's backyard. Between the heat and the humidity, there wasn't a lot of dancing, but there was a lot of watching and enjoying. There was a stunning range of looks, all sorts, all ages.
All sorts of dancers.
The ones with strong body sense.
The ones who can't dance and are still having an excellent time.
The ones who dance as a semi professional hobby.
Corey feldman guy, doing his own thing and obviously enjoying himself.
One or two stompygoths.
The folks who know one move and work it.
A few folks in theme appropriate gear, including one lovely young lady, who let me document her look,
from the 'Flashdance' torn neckline of her jersey

to the adorable ankle warmers. Ankle warmers! Kawaii!
And then there's the guy who didn't get the memo and showed up dressed like a hipster on the verge of heat exhaustion in a fedora and bowling shirt.
Within twenty minutes or so of showing up, things did pick up. There was some sort of gathering, the energy reminded me of a bachelorette party or something. About ten young ladies who all got out and nearly half filled the floor, and nudged some of the fence-sitters into getting out. They did that thing where they all gather in a circle and one at a time they hop into the middle and actually dance, shedding inhibitions and having fun in a created safe place. I liked it.
And they'll do it again next month.
