Y'all have been selected to help me formulate a Punk Playlist! Aren't you thrilled! Make suggestions, stuff that means 'punk' to you. Specific tracks are best, general bands/comments are still helpful. This will help me formulate a playlist so that I can throw down some beats before my God Save the Queen game in November. Songs with a bent toward the political or the 'busting stuff up' angle will receive precendence. Many of them may also require a shopping trip.

(PS: Blink 182 is not punk. And you're not funny.)

The Clash (London Calling) seems an obvious suggestion, along with The Ramones and Sex Pistols, but as I'm the first to comment, I get to be Captain Obvious, I suppose. Also, old The Police (Roxanne) and even old U2 (Sunday, Bloody Sunday). If you really want to get into it, The Mekongs aren't a bad place to look.

Nothing wrong with Captain Obvious. Especially when you throw specific tracks at me too.
(And it amuses me that my skewed perspective puts SBS into the 'middle phase' of U2, with everything after 'Rattle and Hum' being 'later U2'.)

Also, I'm like, a baby punk, so all my punk is "new" punk... ;)

I had not noticed. (:
However, there is no Blink 182 in there so I do not mock you.
Plus Bad Brains goes back a ways, and Offspring has roots, so it's not as new as all that.

Gah. I'm thinking of Rancid, not Offspring.
Regardless. Data, Data, Data! I cannot make bricks without clay!

I still can't decide if he's too New Wavy....
In the back of my head is the voice that says Elvis Goes with Everything.

Well -- Radio Radio was most definitely pre new wave.

Dead Milkmen (VFW is kinda political, Methodist Coloring Book differently so, Stuart is fun and makes Astute Observations about Des Moines)
One Bad Pig (Christian punk!)
Dead Kennedys
Sex Pistols
Mojo Nixon

old Beastie Boys kinda skates the punk/rap line
maybe kinda King Missile
maybe kinda MC 900 Ft Jesus
maybe kinda Thrill Kill Kult
maybe kinda Primus

Dustin Kensrue - Blood and Wine
The Clash - I Fought the Law
The Smash-Up - Pressure (Billy Joel Cover)
Steve Earl and the Dukes - West Nashville Boogie
The Danny Mainstreet Band - Rock'n'Roll Pollution Steroids
The Headstones - Tweeter and the Monkey Man (Travelling Wilbury's cover)
Nickelback - Saturday Nights Alright (for Fighting) (Elton John cover)
AC/DC - If You Want Blood (You got it)

Not all punk, but all have that raw visceral feel, that driving violence and primal beat that drives punk.

I'm also listening to them all right now.

Clash, Ramones, and Sex Pistols are arguably the punk holy trinity, as mentioned and while it's not in the "busting stuff up" end of things, make sure you have for your personal use the very late-career Joey Ramone cover of "What A Wonderful World."

Not entirely punk, but hitting the political angle and certainly rocking would be good ol' Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning."

And from the ladies, there's always Sleater-Kinney.

I'm fairly certain you ensured I'd have Joey Ramone in my library. (:

Another one that might work, having now seen your playlist, is Green Day's "Know Your Enemy."

I would suggest a lot of Greenday tracks - mainly ones from Dookie and Nimrod :)

I was considering using some of the stuff from their early EPs, and I can't decide if I feel daring or ashamed. (:

Never be ashamed of the early Greenday. Maybe the newer stuff, but not the older. Songs like Basketcase, Welcome To Paradise, Hitchin' a Rid, She and When I Come Around are all very much loved by me anyway xD

From: [identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com
And I think that's an excellent start! (:
I was definitely thinking of Welcome to Paradise, and 409 in Your Coffeemaker.
I'm a big fan of using "Dominated Love Slave" wherever I can, but it just doesn't fit here.

I'm officially ancient now so I mention Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Gaye Bikers on Acid, Buzzcocks, Boomtown Rats, Ramones, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, X-Ray Spex, The Slits, Sham 69, and Iggy Pop.

I can post you a list of everything I own, song-wise, if there's anything you want/need. (Export from iTunes to an HTML page and then give you the URL.)

Did Richard Hell do "Love Comes in Spurts"? I've been putting together a "The Good Stuff" soundtrack for Pump Up the Volume and that was one I hadn't tracked down yet.
Let's see. I used "Something's Gone Wrong Again" from the Buzzcocks, "White Riot" and "Know Your Rights" from the Clash, I have a lot of DK, I have three tracks from Sex Pistols (Friggin' in the Riggin' which I probably won't put on this list, Pretty Vacant, and Anarchy in the UK), piles of Ramones, and enough Iggy Pop to get me through this.
I have nothing from Boomtown Rats besides "I Don't Like Mondays" which I would be happy to not hear again. I have no Gaye Bikers on Acid or X-Ray Spex, or Sham 69. (:

(Yeah, he did "Love Comes In Spurts" and I can send it to you.) I'll post my list, in case you recognize something you'd forgotten about. But specific songs that came to mind from these last bands are:
Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap
Gaye Bikers on Acid - Nose Dive Karma
X-Ray Spex - Oh, Bondage, Up Yours!
Sham 69 - If The Kids Are United

I have been told to mention Social Distortion, Circle Jerks, and Black Flag. Also, I'd nominate Rage Against The Machinne and Pop Will Eat Itself.
