My daily dose of outrage
Dec. 3rd, 2010 11:54 amSo there's really no need for the universe to do anything further to outrage me.
Experiment involving drumming and domestic violence. Guess which one neighbors complain about.
I need some antacids and another run through Neil Gaiman's wedding photographs.
EDIT: Friends are saying that the link leads to an article about Black Barbie. I have no idea why, given the URL of the link and several other things, but I'm going to try embedding the video. Hold on tight!

Date: 2010-12-03 05:33 pm (UTC)Going by your description, however, I'm honestly not surprised. It's kind of messed up, but there's a distinct attitude in our culture of "you don't interfere in other people's family matters". It's a well-known bias; one of the excuses consistently heard by witnesses of the infamous Kitty Genovese event was "I thought they were just a couple arguing." It's also another reason why people are so hesitant to call CPS, even in cases where the child is very obviously neglected or abused.
Whether or not this is tied in to the "interfering means potentially facing down a violent person, so noninterference is easier" aspect I'll let other people speculate. But it does strike me that the drummer is less likely to show up at your door pissed off and potentially wielding a weapon...
