apparently high temperature low blood oxygen and elevated heart rate equals a couple of days in hospital for observation.
good news is I should be out for the weekend.
amanda has offered more nuanced updates on her journal.

(12:54 pm EST): He's had an EKG done, and they're doing a chest x-ray later. He's on IV fluids and has a water pitcher.

(ETA: 2:40 pm EST): Temp is down 2-3 degrees, blood pressure is nearly normal. He's on antibiotics and steroids.
