I care about nutrition
Apr. 26th, 2011 11:44 amI am told it's lack of protein that makes me feel this crappy (light headed, dizzy, detatched, a little numb at the extremities). I had a frickin' ham sandwich for breakfast. How the hell do people have a doughnut and coffee and last until lunch? (Unless the reason coffee tastes so bad is that they've stirred in seven or eight scoops of protein powder.)
(Which I doubt.)

Date: 2011-04-26 04:10 pm (UTC)I can't do carbs well anymore, though. If I don't cushion my carbs with protein and/or fat (preferably both) I turn into Snorlax: extremely sleepy, clumsy and don't-know-my-own-strength violent.

Date: 2011-04-26 04:21 pm (UTC)I'm much more a fan of frequent small "meals" lately. I have to have my cereal at home, and then yogurt when I get to work. And an apple before lunch. And it's usually a good plan if I have some sort of snack in the afternoon too. I think I'm becoming a hobbit. :)

Date: 2011-04-26 06:01 pm (UTC)See, I love coffee (it tastes good to me, and I drink it black, no sugar) but I *have* to have protein in the morning or I get very very grumpy. Some people just have different metabolisms or hide their grumpies better or something. I dunno. Mostly I just care about not being cranky myself.

Date: 2011-04-27 06:59 am (UTC)Also from personal advice, by all means listen to what works for others, and try it, and then find what works for /you/, and if it /works/ then ignore the people who say you shouldn't be doing it. Oh, and give it a few days to test the results of a change out, but you already know that stuff.
I followed the 'scientifically proven and recommended' have a good bowl of cereal and some toast to start the day advice for years, and almost always felt like complete and utter crap by mid-morning. If I stick to plain water until lunchtime, or perhaps a cup of tea, leave off most of the carbs altogether and go heavy on the non-dairy protien, veggies and fruit, then the world is a nicer place.
These days I can't face the thought of breakfast at all either. A fast for a full day does not have any real side-effects and gives me a real energy kick for the next couple of days. The exact same thing is probably completely wrong for the next person, who is not me and whose metabolism reacts differently.
The hardest part I have found in the end is not figuring out what works for me personally, it's the tut-tutting from relatives and friends who tell me it's wrong and I should do XYZ instead.
