I am told it's lack of protein that makes me feel this crappy (light headed, dizzy, detatched, a little numb at the extremities). I had a frickin' ham sandwich for breakfast. How the hell do people have a doughnut and coffee and last until lunch? (Unless the reason coffee tastes so bad is that they've stirred in seven or eight scoops of protein powder.)
(Which I doubt.)

I don't know... but I totally don't get it either. My lack of protein is causing heart palpitations when I "over exert myself" (only it's normal every day stuff that's now considered over exertion, when before I was running 4 miles a day), exhaustion, plus feeling crappy and light headed. I just wonder how my vegan sister who seems so survive on coffee and and salad survives.

The coffee changes the way our bodies metabolize for a bit. (Plus, I usually order my coffee with milk which adds a leeetle bit of protein.) It doesn't mean I can live without protein, but it extends the window of how long I have before lack of protein turns me into a shambling zombie.

I can't do carbs well anymore, though. If I don't cushion my carbs with protein and/or fat (preferably both) I turn into Snorlax: extremely sleepy, clumsy and don't-know-my-own-strength violent.

I now have to catch a Snormago.
Although I don't know what she evolves into.

I think it's the evolved form of Snormidget.

I don't understand the donut and coffee people either. (Then again, I don't understand the appeal of coffee, because I have to add a LOT of sugar and chocolate and milk-type substances to have it resembling anything that I would drink...)

I'm much more a fan of frequent small "meals" lately. I have to have my cereal at home, and then yogurt when I get to work. And an apple before lunch. And it's usually a good plan if I have some sort of snack in the afternoon too. I think I'm becoming a hobbit. :)

See, I love coffee (it tastes good to me, and I drink it black, no sugar) but I *have* to have protein in the morning or I get very very grumpy. Some people just have different metabolisms or hide their grumpies better or something. I dunno. Mostly I just care about not being cranky myself.

I have a bowl of either lucky charms or cocoa puffs every morning, and am losing weight like crazy. :)

Speaking as someone who takes it a step further (no food at all until lunch), I can honestly say I have no idea how I manage. But for yours truly, the thought of eating actual food (or pretend food) before 11 in the morning is disgusting an makes me want to hurl.

From personal experience- different metabolisms and food sensitivities.

Also from personal advice, by all means listen to what works for others, and try it, and then find what works for /you/, and if it /works/ then ignore the people who say you shouldn't be doing it. Oh, and give it a few days to test the results of a change out, but you already know that stuff.

I followed the 'scientifically proven and recommended' have a good bowl of cereal and some toast to start the day advice for years, and almost always felt like complete and utter crap by mid-morning. If I stick to plain water until lunchtime, or perhaps a cup of tea, leave off most of the carbs altogether and go heavy on the non-dairy protien, veggies and fruit, then the world is a nicer place.

These days I can't face the thought of breakfast at all either. A fast for a full day does not have any real side-effects and gives me a real energy kick for the next couple of days. The exact same thing is probably completely wrong for the next person, who is not me and whose metabolism reacts differently.

The hardest part I have found in the end is not figuring out what works for me personally, it's the tut-tutting from relatives and friends who tell me it's wrong and I should do XYZ instead.

That sounds like work, and so naturally I do not approve. (:
Wow. A full day fast? Nothing but tea until lunchtime? That's... very different.
