cyrano: (Smoke Me a Kipper)

Good lord. While helping another historian do some gaming research, I found myself submerged in <http://torchwood-1920.livejournal.com/profile>the Torchwood Game. And holy fucking god, I had forgotten just how damned good that game had turned out. It was my first attempt at running a game like a television show--each session an episode, with a beginning middle and end, rather than the meandering PC-reactive formula I usually use; character-centric episodes; thirteen episodes with an arc and a season finale; guest stars and two-parters--so there was a lot of nail biting about that. Props were made. Pre- and post-episode teasers, summaries, and DVD bonuses were written. PC-PoV summaries were done, with some amazingly chewy insights and other information that didn't show up 'on screen'. As much as I moaned about the shortcomings each week, that was a fucking amazing arc. And I would like to personally thank each person who made it possible.

There is a set of published rules for running a TV show called Prime Time Adventures. Check it out. Or if you want a physical copy to check out and can't find it anywhere remind me before next ACUS and I'll bring mine.

Oddly enough, I was in a Prime Time Adventures game at my very first AmberCon. It was a half-hour quirky dramedy a la Ally McBeal about an architecture firm called Erection.
It was pretty damned awesome despite being the single episode.

That sounds completely awesome. COMPLETELY. With awesomesauce.

Unfortunately, I kind of wrote myself into a corner and left them with no path to victory and only the Grim Future of Hello Kitty. But it was a hell of a season ending cliffhanger.

That was a lot of fun. Things from the Who world and character's backstories were threaded in at a good pace, and there was roleplaying and everything. :) I do wonder if sometime I should get around to revealing Gertie's Dark Secret tm.

If I thought I could get Gertie's voice, I'd consider writing an episode where The Tragedy came out.

That was fun, although I shall always regret McKee not clouting Waverliegh upside the head with the butt of his sidearm when she threatened Oakley with a scalpel.

It is generally preferred to regret the things one has done, rather than those one hasn't done.

Yeah, but not having had a Sword in my hand that night, I was pretty sure attempting to clout Waverliegh would have ended Oakley with a puncture wound in the jugular.
