An open letter to web marketers

When you design a web ad with a cheery yellow 'X' in the upper right hand corner (where we expect by social convention to find the 'go away' button) which actually is a link to your page, we don't think you're clever and applaud your puckish whimsy. We want to punch you in the testicles with our mouse, and even if you were selling oxygen and we were spiralling through the empty cold void of space we would say 'sod you I do not want your product ever and I will adivse all my friends to burn your store to the ground'.
