Quick stop in, and Truman Show review.

Yes, six years after its release I finally watched it. You know me, resistant to trends. I like the concept, a lot. But I must admit one of my first thoughts were 'If the producers are this clumsy, how did they keep it a secret from him for thirty years?'
Ed Harris as the director is just stunning good. The product placement made me laugh, especially the first few times. And it was nice to see Jim Carrey acting, although I am not similarly inspired to rent The Majestic to see him do it again. The ending was all stirring and heartwarming and stuff, but I didn't feel annoyed or bored, as I am often wont to do with Stirring and Heartwarming Stuff(tm). Four wags.

So who's up for Thai food on Saturday? Eleven-thirty sounds good to me, too. See you at Amarin.

I'm going to add this to my list of proof that I cannot open my mouth (or use my keyboard) without offending someone today.

I'm going back to bed and asking the universe for a do-over....

Hey, if it helps, I couldn't stand The Majestic. I found it extremely schmaltzy and quite heavy-handed.

(I did love The Truman Show. Partly because of Carrey's performance, definitely because of Harris's performance, and not incidentally because of Natascha McElhone. Every time I see a movie with her, I think, "Wow, she's gorgeous. Who is she?")

Really? Trailers and reviews led me to believe it was like a Frank Capra movie but more heart warming and gooey. Tell me more?

Well, your impression is probably right, but I like heart warming and gooey. And I like Jim Carrey (doesn't hurt that he's got the tall skinny hotness going on). Actually, for a chunk of the movie you don't want to like his character, but they do fix it in the end.

Hunh. I'll take this into consideration. (I probably still won't go out of my way to see it.)
