Actually, they did it deliberately to annoy you. Somebody told them you weren't paying attention any more and Ted said "Screw it, don't bother any more."
More seriously they did it to promote lock in--if your show finished at 05, you were likely to stay with them AND to get channel surfers as they gave up on other shows.
