On the fifteenth, Will Shetterly and Emma Bull are coming to San Francisco for a book signing at Borderlands. I've wrestled with the public transportation angle, and 511.org promises me it'll take about two hours (not counting the four block stroll at the end) to get there from here. Google maps says forty-five minutes by car, but that doesn't account for traffic. Regardless, given that I get off work at six and the signing starts at seven, driving still sounds like a win. All I'd have to do is figure some parking. And not go insane.

On that note, I'm thinking of putting together a mix disc for Territory to give to Emma when she's there, a sort of wild west mix. Again, tracklist suggestions are welcome.

Right now I've got "Tombstone" by the Pogues and "Ghost of a Texas Ladies' Man" by Concrete Blonde. So you can see that I already have nothing in mind and am open to suggestions.

Google maps doesn't consider traffic, which I would expect to be significant in that time frame. I believe SF is still a bedroom community, so many people will be heading from the silicon valley to their homes in SF. Plus, parking. Always with the parking!! ;-)

Yeah, I'm still not sold on either course. Train means I don't have to worry about parking, about getting my car broken into, I can sit on the train and read my book instead of getting stressed about the other idiots trying to kill me.

Where exactly is this event that getting your car broken into is a much great risk then the train station? (not snarking, actually curious)

20th and Valencia, more or less. And it's not neccessarily that it's a great risk so much as that it stresses me.

Evil Six, by the Chop Tops

I've got actually quite a bit of wild west-ish stuff in rotation lately. I'll pull together a list of stuff that may fit (but probably not today - Monday is more likely), and if there's anything you want on there, I'll send it your way. :)

I do not have that Chop Tops track, but I'll definitely listen over what I have. And there's three weeks until the signing, so there's no rush. (: If you didn't have such a strong aversion to crowds I'd invite you to meet me there.
I added the Bar Fight music from Desperado, and then I added Edmunson's Firefly bar fight music, and a little traditional fiddle from Alexander James Adams, and then Her Ladyship Qada'an Nachin so it's got a very acoustic feel to it now and I'm either going to shatter that or run with it. I haven't decided. (:

Sad Cowboy Song by Red Elvises? :-)

Sting also has one or two bizarre forays into c&w style musak. I'm thinking "I Hung My Head" but there's another one that I'm blanking on.

Also, Bujold is signing at Books, Inc in Mountain View this Friday at 7:30. If you're free, come join us. I think Chris is dressing up.

That sounds *far* more accessible. (:
I could even grab dinner before.
Does she have a new book?

Second part of the Sharing Knife duology.

And depending on when we get there, how crowded it is, how Teo is doing, etc... there might be food for us before or after or maybe gelato, or something to drink, if you were inclined to be slightly social.

Given that it's a Friday night, and another night sans housemate, I believe I would be so inclined.

Muse's "Knights of Cydonia". Awesome, and much reminiscent of Will Shetterly's "Taken He Cannot Be".

Does that really play well without the visuals?
(I don't know if you saw it or not, but I started creating an RPG worldbook after seeing that video. Much like Wild Zero, it inspired me.)

Ahyes, I remember that! Anyway, from my own experience, I first heard that song on the radio and loved it long before someone linked the video. It's a combination of spaghetti-western music and ELO's "Fire On High".

Excellent! I have to go to iTunes to get Ziggy Stardust anyway.
(Kung Fu! And lasers! And Doc's unicorn!)

511 also does driving time projections, although I'd add 20 minutes to whatever they say. The 15th, if it's July, is a Sunday, so the only traffic of note would be that resulting from any special events in the City that day, which 511 cannot predict.

It's actually the sixteenth--there's another book signing on June fifteenth which confused me. q:
So in that case, 511 would indeed be helpful.

I have never heard of this. Is she any relation to Sofia? (I think Sofia is Coppola though...)

Didn't find her on iTunes, but the video was on YouTube.
Much like everything else in the world. (:
