cyrano: (Sudden but Inevitable)
[personal profile] cyrano
There has been a recent trend, of which I am not terribly fond. I get reports from my friends of something truly delightful. And then I go to experience them and I come away thinking "Well, I had a larf or two" or "It was better than being poked with a badger".
And afterward, I feel bad. Because I've missed out on a chance to feel like I'd experienced something delightful, and instead just felt like I'd experienced something okay.
Hurrah.

That's the problem with passing on things you find delightful; you set a high expectation for something that is, at its core, subjective.

I don't think it's high expectations. I've learned about those with The Matrix. Which, actually, was one of the first times this phenomenon occurred.

It's not the opposite effect either, where I say "Everybody likes this so it must suck rancid moose wang."

Ditto.
I saw Benjamin Buttons and Indiana Jones Crystal Skull yesterday. Meh.

Ouch. That's a hell of a double feature.

Do you find joy in other things? If not, perhaps your happy-compass is broke. If so, why aren't you sharing with us?
