I finally figured out how to put podcasts into the podcast folder of my iPod (the lovely and talented Miss Violet), which is of course completely different from how I put music in the music folder. And once again, I am forbidden to 'eject' the iPod because 'files on the drive are in use with another application'.

Now. I KNOW for a FACT that Apple forbids the iPod to talk to anybody except iTunes. So my only thought is that iTunes thinks that iTunes is using the files, except that when I shut down iTunes the iPod still thinks it cannot be disconnected.

Maybe if I just shut down the entire computer, then I can have the iPod back. I thought I had mentioned this problem before and was hoping that if I googled for it then I'd find out what I eventually did.

Alas.

UPDATE: Apparently? Shutting off Firefox was the answer. (I had windows open to Google mail, Yahoo! mail, LJ, Wikipedia, Demonoid.com, and OutOfPrintClothing.com. I have no idea which one of these pages was rocking out to my music, but I cannot blame any of them.)

I use Media Monkey with my ipod without a problem. Just don't tell Apple!

Apple has become conglomerate-y enough to tweak their noses. Disney is The Mouse, MicroSoft is The Borg, and Apple is The Core.

One of the fun (?) things about iTunes is that it continues running in the background when you close the program. I'm not sure why closing Firefox ended up being the solution, but normally you can just go into the Task Manager and end the iTunes process.

(Granted, my way of doing things is probably not the RIGHT way to do it. :) )

I think that 'right' is... such a confining method. I like to shuffle those into 'preferred' and 'effective'. (:

You may also have a Firefox plugin that is intereacting with the music/iTunes in some fashion.

I had not even thought of that. And I certainly don't really know what the damned things are doing in there.

And if nothing else, as long as the iPod is finished with its sync, you can unplug it illegally. iTunes will usually go "Oh, hey, it's gone," and you can reboot the iPod if it remains on the "do not unplug screen" after that.

It's quicker than shutting down the computer. (:
I admit I considered it, but I didn't know just how upset it would get.

I've done it a few times with no consequences thus far. Of course, it's always best to unplug things legally, but it isn't always possible.

I am terribly pleased, myself. Every time I slip her into my pocket, I think of you.
