Today we added our first direct flights from San Francisco to Reno. So things were chaotic even before the plane broke down and began a spiral of delays cancellations and gate changes. And, for reasons which are beyond my comprehension, we had to park the plane in one of the loading gates. Maybe because United hates us and wouldn't let us move it.
Anyway. So things were pretty crazy all day. Then a lady came up to me this evening and said "I've been watching you the past couple of hours. You're very good at your job. Would you be interested in moving to Wisconsin and working for a software business that I own? Pay starts at over $40K."

Did I mention that this has been a surreal week?

It gets cold there, doesn't it?

You got this woman's card with email and phone, yes?

Two questions come to mind: 1) What would you be doing with this company? Placating enraged customers would actually believed the product would work? 2) Is this company solvent? Will it be so six months from now?

I got no card.
I told her I was flattered, though.
First, I don't think I'm as technically savvy as she'd want.
Second, if moving across town throws me into a complete mental breakdown, I cannot imagine what moving to a place with no ocean and nobody I know would do.
I did salivate at the paycheck and the realization of how much of it I'd actually get to keep, however.

That's a shame. Cost of living is a lot lower in Wisconsin, you would have been able to live a financially decent life.

There may be no ocean, but there are some Great Lakes. That's sort of like an ocean.

If you get the willies moving across town, how did you ever get to California?

How did I get to California?

1) Necessity. I was getting out of school with no degree and the job market in Oregon blew goats. On top of that my life and my circle of friends was becoming dangerously stagnant.

2) I knew lots of people down here.

3) A cute girl asked me to move in and be her 'kept boy'.

4) You think I didn't get the willies moving to California? I arrived the day before Thanksgiving in one of the worst rain storms the area had seen in billions of years (or so I assume from listening to news broadcasts) with my entire life in the back of a pick up truck.

Damn, you've had a surreal week. Do we share some sort of astrological sign or something?

I'd love it (if you have time) if you did a brief summary of the surreal things that have happened in the last week. Like:

Monday: Put down money on new place.
Tuesday: landlady belatedly negotiated with us.

etc.

Thursday: (last week) Started poking at real estate market

Wednesday Afternoon? : Landlord called and said 'How does this sound?'
Thursday: Decided to go with the new place if they'd have us
Friday: Signed paperwork
Saturday: Blessed peace
Sunday: Job in Wisconsin
Monday: ???

Wow, it was awful nice of the woman to offer. Very flattering. But, yeah, Wisconsin is really snowy and cold. Really cold.
Sadly, my first thought was, Wow, Wisconsin, that's close to Chicago. :p

Good week

Doesn't feel good to have someone notice you are doing a good job? Did you give her your boss's name so she could tell them.

Nah. I was too busy trying to figure out whether to say yes or not.
By the way--the email you get will be sent by lj-notify@livejournal.com and if you reply to it, the mail will go back to that automated account. Its purpose is to let you know that somebody has made a reply to something you said on LiveJournal and it will have a URL you can go to where you can see the comment and reply to it.
To add somebody to your Friends page, go to your 'Profile' or 'User info' page. Then click on the 'Your Friends' link under 'Your Settings'. At the bottom of that page will be a place to put account names (like mine, _cyranocyrano_, or Larry's, _l2g_) and add them to your Friends page. And then you can click on 'Friends' from your main page to see it.
