I wish more of my friends were fans of Something Positive. Because when they ask me why I'm laughing so hard, it's difficult to just point to today's comic without getting into... three different discussions of backstory if you're behind.

Origin

To vet was originally a horse-racing term, referring to the requirement that a horse be checked for health and soundness by a veterinarian before being allowed to race. Thus, it has taken the general meaning "to check".
It is a figurative contraction of veterinarian, which originated in the mid-17th century. The colloquial abbreviation dates to the 1860s; the verb form of the word, meaning "to treat an animal", came a few decades later—according to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest known usage is 1891—and was applied primarily in a horse-racing context. ("He vetted the stallion before the race", "You should vet that horse before he races", etc.) By the early 1900s, vet had begun to be used as a synonym for evaluate, especially in the context of searching for flaws.

So now I am assured of both spelling and source.

I am told it's lack of protein that makes me feel this crappy (light headed, dizzy, detatched, a little numb at the extremities). I had a frickin' ham sandwich for breakfast. How the hell do people have a doughnut and coffee and last until lunch? (Unless the reason coffee tastes so bad is that they've stirred in seven or eight scoops of protein powder.)
(Which I doubt.)

I realize I'm about ten years late to the Cool Kids Party, but Rob Dougan Holy God. I just. And. Augh. With the.
It's dark, yes, and in a slightly different mood I might have just said "laughably pretentious" and tossed it out. But. Wow. Yes. Emily Dickinson. Jean Cocteau. Ryuichi Sakamoto. Elgar.
This is music to drive to, in a very determined fashion, and I very nearly found an extra half hour of freeway to drive and just suffer the consequences of being late to work. And I *hate* driving.
I saw it described as "dance music nobody can dance to" and yes but if my club (Girder) were open tonight, it'd be six solid hours of Rob Dougan.
So. Um. Yeah. I liked it pretty okay. And I'm looking forward to hearing the instrumental version of "Instrumental".
EDIT: And oh yeah he's pretty. And the liner notes--all the photos are in breathtaking stages of damage. I just. Oh. And yeah.
Double EDIT: Watched the video for Furious Angels, which is... it is a thing. It is perfect within itself. I don't like things this much, so I must assume that he has drugged his CD, and if I die mysteriously this evening there should be an autopsy performed and he should likely be advised not to leave town.
