Last month I took it into my head that I was going back to school *right now*. I wanted to work on getting my classes I already have converted into a degree--probably History or Political Science, since that's what I was majoring in.
There have been a few iterations of the plan. Iteration X-1 was to take one of the classes I've taken before and gotten an incomplete grade in, or to take some other academic course with the possibility of taking an online or television course. But after the last few weeks of work, and an indication of what work will look like going forward, I don't want to take a class with lots of work. I don't want to make my life harder, and I don't want to get burned out on school, work, life, and everything. And I'm looking at the ballroom classes and thinking "That would make me happy." And also, I'm not going to be able to take a class in Spring Term--too many gaps that I'd be away for.
But I'm concerned that this is just me trying to postpone going back to class, or making the changes I want to see in my life. And so, unable to sort out my own conflicting thoughts, I come to you. Am I lazy, or am I sane?

English composition is fun, you read new stuff, you can clearly already write so it'd be relatively easy, and it's bound to fulfill requirements.

I can write, but I can't write papers. Which makes English Comp something I should take very soon in my re-college career.

You know, Ticky Box always seems to win these type of races.

I'm a fan of not burning yourself out. Trust me, sometimes, it's better to do a light load and be able to finish and stay sane...

I fully support this. However, I'm concerned that I do because I would rather avoid doing work rather than because I'm actually in danger of burning out. So I check with outside sources.

Small text entry box! =P

I'd take the dance _and_ something academic. That's how I survived most of college - no more than 4 engineering classes at a time, and at least one PE or music class each semester. In your situation, I'd make it a light academic to get back into the swing of things - something you enjoy and are relatively good at (so it'll be easy), but definitely something you need for your degree.

I am not taking four engineering classes and working full time. (:

I don't want to try to take a class that requires homework and *not* leave myself days during the week to do homework, so that was why combining the two wasn't listed as an option.

The dance class will be social, get your body moving, and give you the opportunity to meet like minded folk. We also always need more male dancers, particularly good male dancers. Dancing well gives you an automatic +2 charisma.

I would love to get back into dancing. Part of it would be that it evokes memories of an idyllic time in my life, and part of it is that I love dancing, the feel of my body moving through space when I know what I'm doing, the synergy of two people creating something beyond them, something ephemeral that only lasts as long as you focus.

*nods* Or in my case, let go. I'm domish by nature, but ballroom dancing is one area of my life that I just let go. When I was describing how a good rotary waltz with a strong lead makes me feel to a subbie, she said that feeling is very similar to sub-space.

How many hours outside of work will you be able to spend per week?

I'm going to take this to mean 'outside of work and the other things that need to get done' and say... 15-20 hours on weekends and another 15 on weekdays is the amount of free time I have, if I am most virtuous. That would not count time to drive to and actually attend class, or time for watching the Daily Show, going to a hockey game, or other 'fun things'.

x = how many classes do you need to take to get the degree/license you want
y = how many years you want to wait until you get the degree/license
n = number of classes to take each semester
3 = number of semesters in a year. Use 2 if you want summers off.

n = x/3y

And where 1 = how many classes I can take next term, and the maximum number of classes per term until I find out how much financial aid I can get. (:
